Barely 30 days after the release of her debut album, Loliwe, Zahara has broken the mother of all records by cracking the 200 000 unit sales mark.
“It’s been a while since I’ve witnessed such excitement over a new artist. By the time the CDs hit the warehouse, there is already a queue of music outlets ready to take delivery of their stock,” said EMI Music Marketing Manager, Wandile Sikhosana on Tuesday morning.
The album, performed in isiXhosa and English, features a series of hits, from the highly popular ‘Loliwe’ to spiritually uplifting ballads such as ‘Destiny’ and ‘Ndiza’.
“We are honoured to be part of this dynamic young woman’s history making moment. This is also a tribute to TS Records who discovered this talent. Judging by the excitement this album has created on the social networks, in both the print and electronic media, it shows beyond a shadow of doubt that Zahara has the makings of a superstar,” he added.
Zahara, who spent many years trying to get a recording deal without success, was finally signed by TS Records last year.
This month, she will kick off a nation-wide tour, promoting the album with performances in Cape Town, Joburg, Durban, East London and Mpumalanga.
